Sometimes I catch myself doing very Wyoming things, and I laugh that this is actually my life. The Jackson Hole Elk Antler Auction is one of those moments that just screams Wild West and I just soak it all up and embrace all the cowboy!
Every year, our local boy scout troop gets first dibs at gathering all of the antlers that have shed from the elk herd that wintered here, and have now migrated back out into the Parks. A lot of people see those antler arches when they roll into town and gasp at animal cruelty, but fear not!, like a lot of wildlife out West, elk shed their antlers each year. Once the boy scouts gather them up, they host a live auction on Town Square and it’s full blown Western. It seems like there are thousands of antlers! Vendors from around the West bring antlers, moose paddles, and skulls to sell and there are even bear spray demonstrations. Like, what is my life?
I was on the hunt for a bison skull for my new cabin and I scored big time with this beauty (top photo) for only $100! Well, not really, he had like….a lot of bison skulls for sale, but I’m still feeling lucky on the price for its size! I’m excited to decorate with this bad boy. My gut wants to paint the horns silver, but after doing a poll on my instagram, y’all voted a hell no!
